Southern Wind SW 102: Seawave

Continuing the trend toward flush decks and low profile deckhouses, Southern Wind’s Seawave takes the design a step further, even setting the on deck refrigeration units cleverly into the coamings. An elegant profile from Farr Yacht Design, Seawave’s 32-meter/104-foot also has a few tricks up her sleeve, making her perfect for the owner’s use as well as racing, and even for chartering.

A thoroughly modern look from stem to stern, Seawave is the fourth of the SW 102 series, the second of which to sport a raised saloon. A yacht with a great pedigree in her sister ship Hull #3 Farfalla, she was launched in June of 2015, debuting at the Monaco and Cannes shows in September of the same year. She looks to be a formidable challenger on the superyacht racing circuit as well as in the charter market, sporting a versatile, comfortable, livable arrangement.

Southern Wind Shipyard

Willy Persico, Managing Director of Southern Wind Shipyard, founded this Cape Town, South African company in 1991 steeped in a culture dedicated to Italian design philosophy emphasizing functional luxury. Growing up in the Italian coastal city of Naples, he is no stranger to the shipyards and the sea.

Specializing in building semi-custom yachts between 25 and 35 meters that take clients wherever they want to go, Southern Wind’s goal is to ensure fast passage, luxurious comfort, and exceptional performance. The yard has produced 17 superyachts exceeding 30 meters in the past six years. Today, the yard can complete the entire range of construction details required of these commanding yachts in-house at the 17,000 square meter facility.

Dividing tasks between two macro departments, one is focused on lamination and the other for assembly, embracing carpentry, engineering systems, steel, and deck hardware. Tasks are assigned to a staff of 320 people, most with a local heritage, but many with Italian and European influence.

The company’s no-nonsense approach is underscored by the elegant lines of Seawave’s hull, as well as in her clean workspaces and minimal interruptions in design. A solid yacht for the practical sailor desiring long-range, blue water cruising on a reliable craft, the intelligent deck plan combined with chic, streamlined interior makes time on board Seawave an indulgent pleasure.
