Monaco Smart Yacht Rendezvous 2023

The Monaco Smart Yacht Rendezvous was a key event during the 6th Monaco Ocean Week. The event, organized by Monaco Marina Management – M3, brought together the entire yachting ecosystem including major shipyards, designers, engineers and startups, to discuss innovative solutions that could be adapted to superyachts. The Prince Albert II Foundation, Credit Suisse, Wider Yachts, Xerjoff and the MB92 Group Shipyard supported this 1st Edition.

The yacht industry has been facing increasing pressure to be more sustainable and limit its environmental impact. Many yacht builders have been developing R&D expertise for tomorrow’s yachts to ensure they are eco-friendly. The whole life cycle of a yacht was discussed during the event, from R&D to its usage, maintenance, and evolution. Topics discussed included new propulsion solutions, choosing more eco-friendly materials, optimizing energy use, water management, connectivity, and safety.

One of the key takeaways from the event was the growing demand from clients for green technologies, which will undeniably impact ecosystems. Therefore, the superyacht industry is encouraged to turn to more eco-friendly technologies to ensure its future.

The event also featured a unique selection process to foster synergies between startups, scaleups & corporate. The participants were able to showcase their products and innovative solutions to the yachting key players but also to network with these professionals. The quallity of the projects presented was evident in the closeness of the votes during the deliberations. The Smart Innovative Yacht Award winners in the Startups category were the Italians from Northern Light Composites (Nlcomp), who developed a recyclable composite that solves fiberglass end-of-life issues. In the Scaleups category, British Lineat Composites topped the votes with their process to turn carbon fiber waste into carbon fiber tape. Finally, in the Corporate category, French company Wisamo took the prize with its inflatable, retractable, and automated wing for merchant ships and pleasure boats.
