Lamborghini’s CEO Stephan Winkelmann unveiled the breath-taking Veneno at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show as a tribute to the 50th anniversary of Automobili Lamborghini. The presentation gave competitors McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari something to worry about, and us mortals something to sigh about.
The new Lamborghini Veneno, with its extremely precise lines and high-performance engine, is what your wildest dreams are made of. Only four models exist, one being the Geneva prototype, which will sit proudly in Lamborghini’s Saint’Agata Museum, and three others that were sold to their owners before they could even set eyes on the real thing for the modest price of €3 millions a piece.
Veneno – venom in Spanish – was the name of the toughest and fastest fighting bull to have ever trampled across the arenas of Andalusia, Spain. The infamous bull gored renowned bullfighter José Sanchez Rodríguez in 1914, causing his untimely death. The modern Veneno looks just as menacing as an angry bull ready to charge. It can go from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in only 2.8 seconds thanks to its twelve-cylinder engine and maximum output of 750 hp.
Apart from being one of the most expensive cars in the world and featuring a one of a kind design, this Italian masterpiece can work its magic on the road as a “street-legal racing car” and as a racing prototype reaching a top speed of 219 mph (355 km/h).
Veneno’s Design
The eye-catching shape of the Lamborghini Veneno, which has clear roots in the Lamborghini Aventador, was designed with the aim of achieving outstanding aerodynamics. The sharp yet precise and proportioned lines of this car accomplish a unique look while maintaining and transmitting the essence and the design philosophy of the Italian brand.
The front end and the rear of the Veneno were optimized for aerodynamic flow and stability at high speeds. In the case of the front end, its shape serves as a gigantic aerodynamic wing with channels that guide the air into different outlets in the front hood, the front windshield and the front wheels. As regards the rear, the fours exhaust pipes aid in increasing the level of downforce peak and the openings help to keep the engine cool and the air flowing continuously.
Two characteristic elements of the brand were incorporated in the Veneno design: the Y shape in the front headlamps and rear lights, and the scissor doors.
Veneno’s Carbon-fiber Technology
This Lamborghini work of art is a CFRP-based lightweight prototype with a carbon-fiber reinforced polymer monocoque which combines the technology used for the Lamborghini Aventador monocoque with new and improved design elements.
The interior of the car also features state-of-the-art carbon-fiber elements, such as the lightweight bucket seats made from the brand’s patented Forged Composite and woven carbon-fiber CarbonSkin® matting for the cockpit. These exclusive materials perform their function flawlessly: the Veneno, with a dry weight of 3,190 pounds (1,450 kilograms), is 275 pounds (125 kilograms) lighter than the Aventador and can go faster than its predecessor.
The design and technological elements of the Lamborghini Veneno combine to create an astounding car that reaches impressive speeds while keeping its driver and occupants safe to enjoy the infinite possibilities it offers.
