She was not specifically designed for racing but was adept enough to participate in handicap classes. Charles E. Nicholson excelled at creating a yacht unrestricted by any rating rule, reflecting his innovative and inspired approach to yacht design.

Over the years, Brynhild transitioned hands multiple times, witnessing several modifications, including an engine installation and a conversion from a yawl to a ketch in 1937. That was when Brynhild transformed into the Black Swan, a name she carries with pride to date.
