Black Swan Now Available at Charter with Camper & Nicholsons

As an ardent observer of the yacht industry, I am thrilled to bring to you news of a veritable icon that has just joined the Camper & Nicholsons charter fleet. Prepare to journey through time as you set sail aboard the magnificent sailing yacht, "Black Swan."

The history of the Black Swan is an intricate tapestry of design, craftsmanship, and ownership spanning over a century. Launched in 1899 from the prestigious Camper & Nicholsons Gosport shipyard, she was designed by the acclaimed Charles E. Nicholson.

The 40.2m classic beauty initially took to the seas as Brynhild, a commissioned piece by John Selwin Calverly, who dreamt of a yacht that was an all-rounder. She was not specifically designed for racing but was adept enough to participate in handicap classes. Charles E. Nicholson excelled at creating a yacht unrestricted by any rating rule, reflecting his innovative and inspired approach to yacht design.

Over the years, Brynhild transitioned hands multiple times, witnessing several modifications, including an engine installation and a conversion from a yawl to a ketch in 1937. That was when Brynhild transformed into the Black Swan, a name she carries with pride to date.

Following WWII, a refit under the stewardship of John Nicholson, son of Charles E. Nicholson, at Camper & Nicholsons brought new life to the yacht. She even saw an extended period under the ownership of the Mechoulam family, remaining with them for four decades.

The early 1990s brought another significant refit for Black Swan at the Beconcini yard in La Spezia. A period of financial turbulence led her to be bank-seized and laid up in La Spezia from 2008 to 2015.

This historical gem was eventually identified by her current owner, Edouard Poullain, who, as an enthusiast of classic yachts, rescued and rejuvenated Black Swan, allowing her to sail again. Now, she stands ready to share her unique heritage and the thrill of the open sea with charter guests in the West Mediterranean this summer.

Black Swan offers accommodation for six guests in three double cabins. Traditional yachting aesthetics grace her interiors, providing a sublime ambiance. Dine either within the deck saloon or on deck, soaking in the breathtaking views of the Mediterranean.

The Black Swan is currently based in Sète, where she will appear along the coast while attending the ECPY Open Day. This is an incredible opportunity to charter a piece of maritime history that has stood the test of time.
