ARES Yachts Enters Superyacht Arena with Landmark Launch of 62m Sailing Yacht SIMENA

The Turkish shipbuilding landscape has marked a new high tide with the launch of SIMENA, the first superyacht from Antalya-based ARES Yachts. At an impressive 62 metres, this ketch-rigged sailing yacht represents a bold and decisive entry into the highest echelon of yacht building for a shipyard previously known for its robust portfolio of fast patrol boats and commercial vessels. The launch signals a significant strategic expansion for ARES, placing it firmly on the map of global superyacht builders.

SIMENA is not just a first for ARES; she is a statement. The vessel immediately claims a spot among the top 25 largest sailing superyachts in the world, a noteworthy achievement for any debut project. This ambitious build, constructed with a steel hull and carbon composite superstructure, is poised to make its official world premiere at the prestigious Monaco Yacht Show from September 24-27, 2025, following the completion of extensive sea trials.

A Marriage of Classic Elegance and Modern Engineering

The conceptualization and execution of SIMENA are the result of a carefully curated collaboration with industry-leading designers. The yacht’s distinguished and timeless exterior lines were penned by Taka Yacht Design, a firm renowned for its expertise in creating vessels that evoke the golden age of sailing. Naval architect and owner of the design firm, Osman Tanju Kalaycıoğlu, notes that while the aesthetic takes cues from classic clipper ships, the hull form is an evolution of his firm's previously successful wooden ketch designs. This blend of heritage and proven naval architecture provides SIMENA with a "classic with character" personality.

The exterior is a testament to traditional craftsmanship, featuring meticulously laid teak decks and gleaming, varnished sipo mahogany joinery. These classic elements are not merely decorative; they are integral to the yacht’s soul, creating an authentic connection to the grand sailing yachts of the past.

Inside, Design Unlimited was tasked with creating an interior that bridges the classic exterior with a contemporary and comfortable living experience. The UK-based studio has crafted a space of understated sophistication, using a palette of rich walnut cabinetry, fine tonal leathers, and elegant fabrics. These are accented with antiqued brass fittings, which add a layer of warmth and historical resonance.

The guest bathrooms are finished with luxurious Calacatta Oro and Patagonia White marbles, complemented by intricately patterned tiles. In a nod to modern expectations of uncluttered living, technological elements are cleverly concealed. For instance, television lifts in the main saloon and the owner's suite ensure that the yacht's clean lines and timeless spirit remain uninterrupted. Mark Tucker, Creative Director of Design Unlimited, describes the interior as a "relaxed and refined sanctuary," perfectly suited for both private escapism and entertaining.

Performance and Technology for Global Exploration

Beneath her classic aesthetic, SIMENA is a thoroughly modern, go-anywhere bluewater cruiser built to RINA Charter Class C requirements. Her technical platform is centered around a sophisticated hybrid drive system, a feature that underscores ARES Yachts' commitment to forward-thinking technology.

This advanced propulsion package allows the yacht to operate in near-silence under electric power alone at speeds up to 6 knots, offering a serene and environmentally conscious cruising experience. For longer passages or when higher speeds are required, a powerful 882 kW (1183 hp) diesel engine works in tandem with the 220 kW electric motors. This configuration provides a top speed of 14.5 knots and an impressive transatlantic range of 4,000 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 11 knots, even without the assistance of her sails.

"We built a yacht that sets a new benchmark for performance, comfort, and style," commented Piraye Sahinkaya Orhun, Yachts Projects Director at ARES Yachts. "SIMENA blends the elegance of a classic ketch with cutting-edge technology, designed for a true connoisseur... She’s perfect for any voyage in luxury and comfort.”

Accommodations and Onboard Living

SIMENA is designed to accommodate up to 12 guests in exceptional comfort, supported by a professional crew of nine. The layout has been thoughtfully arranged to maximize both privacy and social engagement.

Key Accommodation Features:

  • Owner’s Suite: Positioned in a prime forward location on the main deck, this full-beam suite offers panoramic views and ultimate privacy. It includes a spacious ensuite, a dressing room, and access to a private hot tub on the bow.

  • Guest Cabins: The remaining guest accommodations consist of a mix of double and twin cabins, each finished to the same high standards seen throughout the yacht.

  • Main Saloon: This expansive area features formal dining and a comfortable lounge, serving as the social heart of the interior.

  • Deck Spaces: The exterior decks offer ample space for relaxation and entertainment, including a Jacuzzi and sunpads located aft of the cockpit, and a shaded flybridge with commanding views.

A New Flagship for a New Era

The launch of SIMENA is more than just the introduction of a new yacht; it represents the dawn of a new era for ARES Yachts. The shipyard, which also has a 50-meter motor yacht named Spitfire and a 54-meter explorer, Project Atlas, under construction, is clearly diversifying its offerings and aiming for the top tier of the market.

"With SIMENA, ARES Yachts sets the tone for its future fleet – bold, timeless, and technologically advanced," stated Sahinkaya Orhun. This project serves as a powerful demonstration of the yard's technical capabilities, project management skills, and its vision for the future of luxury yachting.

As the industry looks ahead to the Monaco Yacht Show, the official debut of SIMENA is one of the most highly anticipated events of the season. The yacht is currently offered for sale exclusively through Northrop and Johnson, presenting a unique opportunity for a discerning owner to acquire a brand-new, world-class sailing yacht with an impeccable pedigree.
