Amels 60m Entourage

Things are not always as they seem. Sometimes, they are infinitely better. Such goes the tranquil flow of serenity inspired by the Amels 60-meter motor yacht Entourage.

A synchronous masterpiece of form and function, the first profile glance hints at two separate yachts, one defined by the bow, the other embraced by the stern. Looking deeper into the soul of Entourage subtly connects the halves through the genius of Espen Øino International, embellished by fluent moves interweaving interiors penned by Toronto firm Burdifilek, all meticulously executed by Dutch builder Amels.

Espen Øino proved how well he and his team understood the concept of the first Amels Limited Editions 60, Come Together. Winning a bevy of awards, Come Together set the bar high. Working on Entourage, Øino raised that bar, challenging talent to further improve and refine the series with careful measure, meeting and exceeding high expectations.

The Yin and Yang of the Yacht

The powerful lines sculpting the exterior are defined and strong up front, along the massive bow and the near-vertical stem. As the superstructure transitions aft, moving from the lines become carefully carved facets, open and crisp, at one with the sea.

The soft, organic lines of the interiors, artfully painting with light and shadow in soothing shapes, suggest a cushioned environment designed to ensure safe passage. From the gentle palette to the lush upholstery, intuitive design, and thoughtful art, guest spaces remain highly conducive to quiet repose.

Thus, Entourage accomplishes a symbiotic merge of protective outer shell and nurturing interior, blending into a mutually beneficial whole that is functional, stylish, and extremely comforting through this balanced, harmonic connection.

Insight From The Designers

Highlighting Entourage as one of his biggest yet most exciting challenges to date, Espen Øino felt that what he learned from the client proved a privilege, enhancing the outcome. Changing the trapezoid windows from Come Together’s design to elongated glazing required considerable engineering changes but established a distinctive new look and feel within the Amels 60 platform, finding the owner quite pleased with the result. As well, optimizing the storage of tenders and toys on the foredeck was a significant change, but made the owners smile.
“What truly sets Entourage apart is the clever use of space,” Øino noted, adding, “The 1.5-meter longer decks may seem subtle, but they create a significant impact. They make the yacht feel remarkably spacious.” Øino concluded that despite the changes, the end result was an incredibly happy owner of an incredible looking yacht.

Diego Burdi of Burdifilek admits that he believed the request for yacht design was a joke, since he had never designed one before, but the owner wanted to shake things up a bit. Using a completely different approach to the interior from a different perspective resulted in a truly tranquil, elegant, inviting, relaxing yacht, bringing elements to the next level in meeting the client’s needs.

Working with a shipyard instead of a contractor turned out to be a positive experience, Burdi stated, adding that working with Amels and a seasoned team of experts made life much easier. “When the sun sets, the yacht transforms, shifting from day to night, evoking a different feeling all together,” Burdi explained.

Burdi commented on the clean, polished look of the yacht achieved by fold-away furnishings that virtually disappear into flush surfaces when needed, working with the soothing tones of the palette to encourage a sense of calm and peace. “What makes Entourage stand out,” Burdi says, “is that this is a yacht interior that challenges all those that see her. She isn’t conventional, she isn’t typical, and she doesn’t fall under today’s yacht world’s prescriptions.” Entourage is a yacht that inspires thought, introspection, and serenity, which was an important part of the owner’s brief.

Arie Midevaine, Amels Project Manager for Damen Yachting, notes the differences between Come Together and Entourage, pointing to how individual yachts that are built on the same semi-custom Amels Limited Editions platform can look and feel like an entirely different build.

Midevaine echoes the major changes that contribute to Entourage’s distinctive appeal, including the change of the main deck windows from trapezoids to continuous, full-height glazing, the 1.5-meter deck extensions on the Bridge and Sun decks, repositioning sun awning poles to the outside of the deck rail, among many other features. Midevaine is also pleased with the way interior and exterior designs complement each other to deliver intuitive experiences for guests on board.
