A Year of Milestones for Baglietto
The historic Italian shipyard Baglietto has marked another significant achievement in what is proving to be a banner year, celebrating the launch of its fourth superyacht in 2025. The latest vessel to grace the waters of La Spezia is the 40-metre DOM133, hull number 10254, christened ‘Andala’. The private ceremony was an intimate and emotional affair, attended by the owner, their family, and the dedicated Baglietto management and staff who brought the vision to life.
This rapid pace of production, averaging one launch per month, underscores a period of intense and successful activity for the storied builder. ‘Andala’ represents the eighth hull in the acclaimed DOM133 series, a line that has quickly established itself as a benchmark for performance, comfort, and sophisticated Italian design in the semi-custom market.
A Fusion of Renowned Design Talent
While ‘Andala’ maintains the powerful and elegant DNA of the DOM series, she is a testament to Baglietto’s flexibility in accommodating significant owner customization. The yacht’s striking exterior lines were penned by the acclaimed Stefano Vafiadis, whose signature style balances muscularity with grace, ensuring the DOM133 stands out in any anchorage.
For the interior, the owner turned to the creative vision of Giorgio Cassetta, a designer renowned for his meticulous attention to detail and his ability to craft spaces that are both luxurious and eminently livable. The collaboration between these two Italian design houses, under the expert guidance of the Baglietto team, has resulted in a vessel that is unique in its configuration and aesthetic, tailored precisely to the owner’s tastes.
The owner was expertly represented throughout the complex build process. IBI Yachts acted as the client’s representative, ensuring the project aligned with the initial vision, while Andrea Pezzini of Floating Life provided crucial oversight as the owner's surveyor and technical manager. This level of professional management is essential in a custom build, guaranteeing that every technical specification and design nuance is executed to the highest standard.
The Success of the DOM133 Line
The DOM133 series has been a resounding success for Baglietto. The "DOM" name is derived from the Latin word domus, meaning "home," reflecting the line's core philosophy: to create a yacht that offers unparalleled comfort and a true home-away-from-home experience on the water.
Key features of the DOM133 that have resonated with owners include:
- Expansive Beach Club: The two-level beach club is a signature of the series, offering a vast, open space at the stern where guests can relax close to the sea. The feature is enhanced by a large, lifting stern platform that creates an extended swim area.
- Voluminous Interiors: With a beam of 8.70 metres, the DOM133 boasts impressive interior volume for its class, allowing for spacious guest cabins, a panoramic main saloon, and a generous owner’s suite on the main deck.
- Flexible Layout: The platform allows for significant customization. Owners can choose from various configurations to suit their lifestyle, a key factor in the series’ broad appeal and a strength highlighted by the build of ‘Andala’.
- Performance and Efficiency: Powered by twin Caterpillar engines, the DOM133 can achieve a maximum speed of 17 knots. Its shallow draft also makes it ideal for exploring coastal regions and island archipelagos, such as the Bahamas, that are inaccessible to deeper-draft vessels.
Baglietto’s Unstoppable Momentum
The launch of ‘Andala’ is not an isolated event but part of a larger, strategic expansion and a period of remarkable productivity for the company. Baglietto's Chief Commercial Officer, Fabio Ermetto, commented on the shipyard’s impressive performance.
“Our brand's having a truly amazing spring,” stated Ermetto. “We've launched four yachts so far, and three more – two DOM133 and a T52 – are going to hit the water by mid-June. Such outstanding results testify to our Company's soundness and organizational maturity. We are proud to offer customers world-class products and a level of customisation that remains unmatched in this segment.”
This success is built on a solid foundation of investment and infrastructure. Baglietto operates from two production sites in La Spezia and Carrara. The La Spezia headquarters, covering approximately 35,000 square metres, has recently undergone extensive renovation. The addition of three new sheds now allows for the construction of yachts up to 65 metres, supported by new, fully-equipped quays capable of berthing vessels up to 70 metres. The Carrara facility complements this with specialized areas for military craft construction under the BAGLIETTO NAVY brand, alongside sheds for building yachts up to 50 metres.
This dual focus on both the pleasure and military sectors provides a stable and diversified business model, allowing the company to invest confidently in innovation and capacity.
As ‘Andala’ undergoes her final outfitting and sea trials before delivery, the industry watches Baglietto with keen interest. The shipyard’s ability to consistently deliver highly customized, world-class superyachts at such an impressive pace sets a new standard in the market.
