Though it is certainly true that many of the world’s top shipbuilders seem to always be living up to high expectations, there are few others beside Benetti—a company operating since 1873—that the community places such an intense focus. The highly specialized company, operating all around the world, has committed itself to creating yachts that are not just good, but transcendentally brilliant.
For those who have been following the yachting community for very long, there is no doubt that Benetti’s self-titled “Giga Season” is one of the most exciting times of the year. As the name might imply, this is a time of the year where the team specifically focuses on constructing and launching “Giga” yachts that are more than 100 meters in length.
There are a few reasons why this particular season is so exceptionally magical. It allows the team to demonstrate their capacity to operate on a large scale and, furthermore, it also helps set the tone for what the community as a whole ought to be expecting.
As the season is officially set to begin in the beautiful Tuscany city of Livorno (Italy), the 107 meter FB277 is one of the most highly anticipated yachts of the year. While she was able to first witness “the light of day” on December 12th, she will make her official launch on December 18th.
The formal debut of this ship will take place in a private event, per the owner’s wishes. She consists of a steel hull and aluminum superstructure which seems to be an absolute work of engineering excellence. Furthermore, her 15.2 meter beam and 3,300 tons of full load displacement are both clear representations of the fact that the FB277 has been able to effectively live up to the “Giga” name.
In order to create this ship, Benetti looked inward for design inspiration and also partnered with Imperial Yachts for the building process. The design process was done with a great sense of precession, careful measurements, and a willingness to push forward and incorporate modern design goals.
The owners of FB277 are certainly quite fortunate to get to experience a masterpiece of this caliber. In addition to this ship, however, Benetti is also committed to successfully launching two more giga yachts before the season is actually complete. These ships are also carefully designed and rigidly adhere to their owner’s strong expectations.
Giga season is without a doubt one of the most highly promoted times of the year. Though the full outcomes of this season are yet to be known, based off of what we are already able to know about the FB277, it is clear that Benetti has been able to get off to a very impressive start.
