Volvo Ocean Race: a race around the world

The Volvo Ocean Race is about to start its new edition 2014-15 and we are all expecting this thrilling experience. On the October 11 the super yachts will start their trip around the world, starting on Alicante, Spain. The teams are preparing themselves to confront rough weather, tough conditions and fearless competitors. Everyone wants to take the first place but those who are more prepared will be the victorious on this battle.

This event is one of the most expected races, where seven teams prepare themselves to sail around the world. You will get the chance to see sailors form China, America, Netherlands, Abu Dhabi and Spain. And for the first time an all-female crew will race against Volvo Ocean Race veterans and first time rookies.

The new Volvo Ocean 65 is the sail yacht selected to take the all around the world tour where the crews will have to spend their next nine-month. This new design was specially built for this race and incorporates a series of innovations that combined make a boat, that is not only fast on the water but also cool looking and capable of withstanding the toughest conditions on the planet. Part of the innovations includes five fixed camera positions and two uplink points, which combined will give coverage from all angles.

The race route goes through 11 ports in 11 different countries, starting in Europe and spread across Africa, Asia, Australia and the Americas before finishing back in Europe. It is a 38, 739 nautical miles route that really goes all around the globe. Every stopover will feature fantastic free entertainment, which includes concerts, ceremonies, celebrity appearances and different activities within the Volvo Ocean Race Experience.

This experience also offers interactive, multimedia entertainment. While in-port race gives spectators the chance to see the sailors bring the Volvo Ocean 65 close to shore. There will be one in-port race in all of the 10 stopovers to provide a great show and give the teams an opportunity to gain valuable points for the in-port series. The extreme corporate hospitality will alow sponsors to put their guests on the water on hospitality boats to catch the action of the in-port races and leg starts. A very lucky few can be part of the competitive action itself, joining the crew on board as guests for the in-port race or the leg start for a period of 45 minutes, jumping off the boat just before it heads out to the sea.

If you want to see it all, the boats, sailors and the race; there's no need you sail around the world, get a first-hand taste of this event at NAVISyachts.com. We will be providing live coverage of the race where you can get all the information that you need and follow the Volvo Ocean Race Experience.
