Hamilton, the first Wally Cento Design is launched

Monaco, 18 June 2012 – Hamilton, the first unit of the groundbreaking WallyCento design, was successfully launched today in Hythe on the South Coast of England.

Developed by Judel Vrolijk naval architects with the interiors by Design Unlimited, Hamilton fully exploits the WallyCento box-rule to create a fast seaworthy sound cruiser-racer that benefits from the latest performance technology, respecting the Wally spirit.

"Cruising in comfort at the speed of the fastest maxi racer and racing at the highest level of competition is the dream of every passionate yachtsman –says Luca Bassani Antivari, Wally President and Founder –WallyCento is the first and only super yacht making this dream come true, and Hamilton truly reflects this concept."

Hamilton will join the Wally Class racing circuit participating in the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup (September 2-8, Porto Cervo) and in the Voiles de Saint Tropez (September 30-October 7).

"We are very honoured to welcome in the Wally Class a highly competitive and experienced racing team like Hamilton's –continues Bassani – . Next year they will engage epic duels on the water with Magic Carpet Cubed, the second Wallycento we have in the order book, further raising the racing level".

Hamilton is the first super-yacht to feature the unique steering wheel expressly developed for WallyCento by the internationally renowned designer Konstantin Grcic. The three-spoke wheel further enhances the strong design aesthetic of the WallyCento, and it is exclusive to this product.

The construction of the second WallyCento unit, Magic Carpet Cubed, is proceeding on schedule at WallyEurope facility in Ancona, Italy: the hull was successfully de-moulded at the beginning of June, and the yacht is scheduled to be launched at the end of the year.

About WallyCento

In 2011, Wally announced Wally//Cento, a new 100-foot racer-cruiser, to be built in compliance with a boxrule. The aim was to create a fleet of yachts, close in size and performance, that could be raced within its own division of the Wally Class, as well as racing competitively under the IRC or different rating rules in Maxi Yacht regattas around the world.

"We were asked by several passionate owners to look at a fleet with more closely matched performance, which could enable incredibly exciting racing with yachts competing literally side-by-side," explains Luca Bassani, Wally President. "Importantly however, these owners still wanted to be able to enjoy their yacht as a fully equipped cruiser."

The result is a fleet that embodies so much of Wally's DNA: yachts with outstanding performance, using reduced displacement, powerful sail plans, moveable ballast, improved stability and planing hull characteristics, that are in equal measures exceptionally comfortable cruisers. The box-rule, designed to ensure closely matched cruisers-racers that could still benefit from the latest performance technology, included the following basic parameters:

• Length – 30-30.48 m

• Beam – 6.5-7.2 m

• Displacement – 45- 50 tons

• Draught – fixed keel 5 m; lifting keel up min.4.5 m, down max. 6.2 m

• Moveable ballast – lifting keel only

• Cruising interiors and systems – minimum number of cabins and heads, air conditioning, fridges, stove, water maker, generators, sounds insulation, interior finishing

This allows owners to have a high degree of personalisation, choosing designers, architects and Wally approved shipyards as well as using their experience and creativity to gain the competitive edge.

"One hundred feet is the perfect size within which to combine absolute comfort, outstanding performance and racing manoeuvrability," Bassani adds. "As a result, Wally//Cento will remain very competitive within the international racing circuit. Significantly, this will also ensure strong residual values for owners."
