Design, preparation and imagination in the Hamilton II

When George Nicholson, friend and adviser to the owner, contacted CNB, we were very surprised and proud to learn that it was about the construction of Prince and Princess Sadruddin Aga Khan’s next yacht.

The design, preparation and imagination required by this new yacht have been a fascinating experience. We all remember emotionally – naval architect, stylist, project manager, captain – the warm and friendly welcome that awaited us every time we visited them at home on the shore of Lake Geneva where the inevitably long, studious and constructive planning meetings with the Prince, the Princess and one of their sons were held.

Since the Prince’s death, our duty was clearly to finish this beautiful sailing boat in his honor. The Princess and their children’s wish was to launch her to keep the memory of the Prince afloat in the yachting world he loved so much and graced with his presence on many occasions.

The interior was designed by Andrew Winch and reflects the owners’ choices, furnishings made of bamboo, finely underlined by the use of leather, stainless steel and cotton. The chart table and navigational instruments are found on the starboard side of the saloon. The boat is completely air-conditioned and particularly quiet…

Hamilton II, the name she was given by her new owner, was partly modified and suitably laid out to become a charter yacht that would be looked up to. Hamilton II is one of the most wonderful boats we have ever built, marvelously proportioned with a superb rig and extraordinary cuben fiber sails! It is the eighteenth boat designed by Philippe Briand for CNB and styled beautifully by Andrew Winch, she will, we are certain, have many admirers and be enjoyed by those who sail in her.

Our expertise in the vacuum construction technology enabled us to go even further than the challenge we faced with the CNB 104 Only Now. The hull and the deck of Hamilton II are the biggest carbon vinylester and balsa sandwich structures ever created by infusion.

With every conceivable luxury on board, the most sophisticated electrical, hydraulic, electronic and mechanical equipment available, Hamilton II – although she is perfectly at ease in grand yacht clubs – has been above all designed to sail away and to be lived on, the sea, remote anchorages, regattas and long transoceanic crossings are her world. The type of boat we like to build at CNB. For connoisseurs.

In the initial version, the CNB 117 was composed of 1 owner suite, 3 double guest cabins, crew quarter including: 3 double cabins, crew mess and galley. Every cabin is furnished with the finest stereo hi-fi equipment. Now Hamilton II has two guests aft cabins in place of the former master’s stateroom shown here.
