Delta 240’ Laurel, a stunning work of art and engineering

Laurel represents a stunning achievement in design and engineering. Donald Starkey Design and Delta Design Group worked together on this project to create the first superyacht with a steel hull and composite superstructure. Although many sea-going vessels have steel hulls, this has not been a common element in yachts. Delta Design Group, however, firmly believes that it makes more sense to allocate a vessel's weight budget on structure instead of fairing compound. Through careful engineering, Delta has managed to make a relatively lightweight superyacht with a robust shell plating and frame system with very little weld distortion.

Delta also made sure that Laurel had plenty of power. Its twin Caterpillar 3516 main engines offer a stunning 2,500 horsepower at 1600 RPM. These powerful engines are connected via a shafting system to a water-lubricated strut bearing and oil lubricated stern tube, making it highly efficient. This superyacht also maneuvers easily thanks to a 250 kW bow thruster and a 150 kW azimuthing stern thruster.

Of course, this superyacht has plenty of beauty for passengers to enjoy. Laurel has a welcoming atmosphere that makes guests feel relaxed at all times. The elegant design does not demand stiff manners, but rather lets guests take it easy as they enjoy this marvel of engineering and aesthetics.

The outdoor spaces feature teak woodwork that stretches throughout the ship. This invites guests to explore Laurel so that they get to enjoy her beauty.

On the upper deck, guests can enjoy a shaded outdoor dining area, comfortable sunbeds, or a hot tub. The upper and main decks offer a variety of seating configurations, which makes it easy for guests to enjoy conversations, play games, or just enjoy the view. The upper deck even features a herbarium, where crew members grow fresh herbs that make meals even more delightful.

Laurel offers even more beautiful inside. Rooms feature brilliant pieces of art that were chosen to emphasize the boat’s luxury and openness. Many of the paintings fit right in with Laurel’s interior design, which features geometric shapes that pay homage to the art deco era. Guests will enjoy gathering in the sky lounge, where the walls envelop them and natural lighting adds beauty to the space.

The owner’s accommodations are conveniently located near the main living areas. The owner, however, has a private entrance. It features an alcove space that makes a wonderful place for crew members to leave breakfast without disturbing the owners. This allows them to enjoy a quiet morning so that they can waken to a delicious breakfast. The master suite also has a foyer that opens onto a study and a seating area. It also features a wealth of storage space and outdoor decks so the owners can enjoy the sun privately.

When Delta Design Group and Donald Starkey Design completed Laurel, they accomplished a stunning work of art and engineering. Its innovative design makes it nimble on the water. Its elegant interior and outdoor spaces make it a pleasure to inhabit. This is simply one of the best superyachts ever designed and built in the United States.
