Marc Newson was born the 20th of October 1963 in Sydney, Australia. He spent most of his childhood travelling around Europe and Asia and has lived and worked in Tokyo, Paris and London. He is now based in London, although he continues travelling. Newson is a successful industrial designer who has worked across a wide range of disciplines: product design, aircraft design, furniture design, jewellery and clothing.
Newson was included in Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the Worldand has received many awards and distinctions. He was named The Royal Designer for Industryin the UK and has received an honorary doctorate from Sydney Universtiy. This recognized industrial designer also holds an Adjunct Professorships at the Sydney College of the Arts and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
His work is present in many museum collection, such as the MoMa in New York, the Vitra Design Museum, the Centre Georges Pompidou and at London's Design Museum. Marc Newson has caught the attention and interest of the media this last years and has been the subject of a number of books and documentary films.
Newson's clients are members of the most prestigious brands in the world, from manufacturing and technology to transportation, fashion and the luxury goods sector. Many of his designs have been a success for his clients, who have achieved the status of modern design icons. Marc Newson has also founded a number of thriving companies: an aerospace design consultancy and a fine watch brand, amongst others. Recently, he has been named the Creative Director of Qantas Airways, showing how he can both be a well-known industrial designer and also handle senior management positions at client companies.
