Burton Women’s 2026/27: Two Systems for the Mountain

Mountain weather has a way of deciding what works. On relatively mild days, the challenge is often less about generating warmth than managing it: keeping wind and snow out while allowing heat and moisture to escape as effort increases. When temperatures fall and a storm moves in, the equation changes. Insulation, coverage and protection become increasingly important, particularly on exposed terrain and long lift rides.

Burton’s women’s 2026/27 [ak] collection addresses both situations through two distinctly different layering systems. The first combines an uninsulated GORE-TEX shell with adaptable insulation and technical fleece for variable conditions and higher-output riding. The second builds warmth more directly into the outer layer, pairing down insulation with GORE-TEX and a highly protective three-layer bib for colder, more severe weather.

Both looks are completed by the same snowboard, binding and boot combination, creating two approaches to winter weather around one versatile ride system. For this inaugural NAVIS Beyond selection, the focus is entirely on women; Burton’s men’s 2026/27 collection will follow in the November edition.

Women’s [ak]® Cyclic GORE-TEX
2L Jacket
At the center of the first look is the Women’s [ak] Cyclic GORE-TEX 2L Jacket in Cyanotype Floral, an uninsulated shell that leaves temperature control largely to the layers beneath it. The printed version uses a 75-denier recycled-polyester GORE-TEX 2-layer fabric, providing waterproof and windproof protection without locking the rider into a fixed level of warmth. Burton’s Crossflow Venting releases excess heat during harder efforts, while articulated patterning, fully taped seams, water-resistant zippers and a StormForm hood reinforce its mountain-focused construction. The floral graphic itself is produced from imagery of real flowers captured through cyanotype photography, giving an otherwise technical shell a distinctive visual identity.

Look 1: Variable Conditions

The Women’s [ak] Cyclic GORE-TEX 2L Pants in Airstream Blue continue that shell-based approach. Their 70-denier recycled-nylon GORE-TEX construction is backed by recycled soft-taffeta and mesh lining, while continuous mesh-lined inner-thigh vents help regulate temperature when conditions or activity levels change. Reinforced cuffs, boot gaiters and articulated construction add durability and protection without turning the pants into an insulated piece.

Women’s [ak]® Baker Ultralight Down Jacket

Warmth can then be added only when required. The Women’s [ak] Baker Ultralight Down Jacket in True Black uses 800-fill down inside an exceptionally light 10-denier Pertex nylon micro-ripstop shell. Designed to pack into its own chest pocket, it provides a considerable increase in insulation for little weight or volume—particularly useful when a mild morning becomes colder at altitude or wind increases later in the day.

Women’s [ak]® Baker Stretch Full-Zip Fleece + Pants

Beneath it, the Women’s [ak] Baker Stretch Full-Zip Fleece and matching pants in Rum Raisin provide the active layer of the system. Four-way-stretch flat-face fleece combines a smooth, durable exterior with warmth and moisture management, while HeiQ Smart Temp technology responds to changes in body temperature and HeiQ Fresh assists with odor control. The close-fitting construction also allows the pieces to sit comfortably beneath the other layers without unnecessary bulk.

[ak]® Clutch GORE-TEX Mittens

The [ak] Clutch GORE-TEX Gloves in Airstream Blue complete this more adaptable setup. A GORE-TEX membrane provides weather protection, while DRYRIDE softshell, leather palms and PrimaLoft Gold insulation balance warmth with dexterity. Individual fingers make equipment adjustments easier, useful for a look intended for active riding and conditions where maximum heat retention is not the primary concern.

Look 2: Storm Conditions

Women’s [ak]® Swash Down Insulated GORE-TEX 2L Jacket

The second system begins from a colder premise. The Women’s [ak] Swash Down Insulated GORE-TEX 2L Jacket in True Black combines its weather barrier and insulation rather than separating them. A 30-denier recycled-nylon GORE-TEX 2-layer ripstop exterior surrounds high-loft 800-fill down, while a lightweight recycled Pertex lining keeps bulk under control. Crossflow Venting, articulated construction and water-resistant zippers remain important, because a jacket designed for severe cold must still release excess heat when the rider is working harder. Burton describes the Swash as its warmest women’s storm jacket, positioning it clearly for deep-winter conditions.

Women’s [ak]® Acamar GORE-TEX PRO 3L Bib Pants

The Women’s [ak] Acamar GORE-TEX PRO 3L Bib Pants provide a correspondingly robust lower-body shell. The lower section uses an 80-denier, three-layer GORE-TEX PRO nylon construction, while the bib upper introduces four-way stretch for mobility and breathability. Reinforced kick panels, triple-needle stitching, a RECCO reflector, beacon-compatible pockets and extensive thigh ventilation suggest a garment conceived for demanding mountain use rather than simply resort styling.

[ak]® Clutch GORE-TEX Gloves

The Baker Stretch fleece system remains useful beneath this heavier exterior, providing temperature and moisture management without adding excessive volume. At the hands, however, the choice changes to the [ak] Clutch GORE-TEX Mittens in Summit Taupe. They retain the same GORE-TEX membrane, DRYRIDE softshell, leather palm and PrimaLoft Gold insulation as the gloves, but the mitten construction keeps the fingers together for greater heat retention, an appropriate finishing piece for the colder conditions around which this second look is built.

The Ride System

Both apparel systems meet at the Counterbalance Camber Snowboard, a directional all-mountain board designed to move between groomed terrain and softer snow. Directional Camber places camber beneath both feet for stability and edge response, while a rockered nose and 8 mm taper help the board float when conditions deepen. An FSC-certified Super Fly II 700G wood core reduces weight, 45° Carbon Highlights add response, and a Sintered WFO base is designed for speed and durability. Burton’s Channel mounting system also allows precise stance adjustment.

That Channel interface is central to the Women’s Step On Lexa X EST Bindings in Cyanotype Floral/White. Burton’s EST mounting system moves the attachment points to either side of the binding, eliminating the conventional disc and hardware beneath the foot. This gives the board more freedom to flex naturally and allows a particularly broad range of stance adjustment. SensoryBED cushioning absorbs impact, while a 30% short-glass/nylon composite baseplate and DialFLAD highback give the binding a firmer, more responsive character. Step On replaces traditional straps with a direct boot-to-binding connection designed for quick entry and secure control.

Completing the setup, the Women’s Highshot X Pro Step On Boots sit at the performance-oriented end of Burton’s Step On range. Their Triple Dial BOA PerformFit Wrap system divides adjustment between the upper, lower and ankle zones, allowing fit to be tuned independently. Inside, an asymmetrical Life Liner and ankle hammock concentrate support around the foot and heel, while a Vibram EcoStep Plus outsole with 50% recycled rubber provides traction away from the board. The result is a firm, precise connection that complements the responsiveness of both the Lexa X EST binding and Counterbalance board.

Together, the collection illustrates two different approaches to the same winter environment: one built around adaptability, the other around protection. What connects them is a layering philosophy in which each material and component has a defined role, and can respond when the weather decides to rewrite the day.
