Lürssen Delivers 102.4-Metre Superyacht NIXIE: A Masterpiece of Organic Design and Diesel-Electric Engineering

A Record-Breaking Year for the German Shipyard

Bremen, Germany — The German shipbuilding powerhouse Lürssen has marked another historic milestone with the successful delivery of the 102.4-metre motor yacht NIXIE. Previously recognized throughout the superyacht industry under her build name, Project JASSJ, the highly anticipated vessel was officially delivered and set out on her maiden voyage on June 26.

This remarkable handover represents the sixth Lürssen delivery of 2026. This impressive pace officially marks a record year of new construction for the globally renowned German yacht builder. The delivery underscores the shipyard's exceptional capacity for handling multiple large-scale, highly customized projects simultaneously. The maritime world will soon get a closer look at this engineering marvel, as she will make her global debut this September at the prestigious Monaco Yacht Show 2026.

Organic Philosophy and Exterior Sculpting

NIXIE was meticulously designed by the acclaimed British studio RWD, and her exterior is characterised by a deeply fluid and organic philosophy. Breaking away from the rigid, aggressive geometries sometimes favored in contemporary yacht design, her exterior lines are sculpted with gentle undulations. The design team utilized deep contours and broad convex forms.

This specific shaping is highly strategic, carrying light in a way that gives the massive superstructure a sense of dissolving into itself. To further enhance this visual effect, both her hull and superstructure are finished in a bespoke warm grey. This custom shade is uniquely light-responsive and lends the vessel a subtle pearlescent quality that shifts dynamically depending on the sun's angle and the surrounding environment.

Advanced Structural Glazing

The structural glazing of the vessel is equally considered and represents a significant technical achievement. Each individual glass pane on the yacht is uniquely shaped and gradient-tinted. This specific manufacturing technique effectively blurs the visual distinction between where the glass ends and the steel begins.

By minimizing the harsh lines of traditional window mullions, this gives the exterior a powerful and composed presence. Furthermore, it grants the vessel an unusually light and open character for a yacht of this imposing scale. As is standard practice with all Lürssen yachts, the complex engineering and naval architecture required to support these massive spans of glass were all completed in-house.

Architectural Innovations: The Aft Deck and Beach Club

One of the most striking signature elements of NIXIE is a semi-suspended, six-metre-wide glass swimming pool. This architectural feat is positioned aft on the main deck. Conceived as an integral architectural space rather than a standalone amenity, the pool physically extends over the swim platform. This dramatic cantilever creates a striking visual and physical connection between the yacht and the sea.

The pool features a dedicated privacy screen and has been highly engineered with adjustable water levels. This allows the depth to be altered on demand, making the space fully accessible and safe for multigenerational use.

A 270-Square-Metre Waterside Oasis

Directly below this suspended pool sits an expansive beach club and fitness area. Occupying a major portion of the lower deck, this wellness hub is complete with a state-of-the-art gym and a cryochamber. A cryochamber is an advanced wellness amenity that utilizes extremely cold temperatures for short periods to promote rapid muscle recovery and reduce inflammation.

This area was designed to serve as a seamless indoor-outdoor space. Four large sea terraces and the transom hatch can be deployed to lie perfectly flush with the Indian teak. When fully opened, these platforms create a vast 270 square metres of liveable space at the water's edge. According to the builder, this is one of the largest beach clubs to feature on a Lürssen to date.

The atmosphere of the space is as serene as it is expansive. Delicate stonework and rich woods are used heavily throughout the interior. Furthermore, all the furnishings and fixtures found in this area are bespoke artisanal pieces sourced from around the world by RWD.

Diesel-Electric Propulsion and Energy Storage

Underneath her sinuous, organic architecture lies a highly sophisticated diesel-electric propulsion system. In a diesel-electric setup, traditional large diesel engines do not connect directly to the propeller shafts. Instead, they generate electricity, which is then routed to specialized electric motors that drive the propellers. On NIXIE, this system is supported by an advanced energy storage system (commonly utilizing large-scale battery banks).

This hybrid architecture provides incredibly efficient operation across a wide range of cruising profiles. It allows the vessel to optimize its power generation based on immediate load demands. Crucially for the luxury market, this architecture enables the highest level of onboard comfort through significantly reduced noise and vibration.

Collaborative Excellence and Market Outlook

The success of the 102.4-metre project is a testament to the synergistic relationship between the shipyard and the design studio. “It has been a great experience collaborating with RWD,” stated Tanja Peters, Project Manager at Lürssen. “The project demanded a high level of coordination across design, engineering and procurement, and the team approached each challenge with clarity, creativity, and a strong focus on finding workable solutions”.

Douglas Hynd of RWD echoed this sentiment regarding the yacht's uncompromising design vision. “From the beginning the ambition was clear – every detail, inside and out, intentional – and that became the foundation for everything that followed,” Hynd explained. “We are incredibly proud of this exceptional yacht”.

By combining expansive, resort-style social spaces with a highly private owner's experience, NIXIE is perfectly designed for extended global cruising and grand-scale entertaining. For the ultra-high-net-worth market seeking this caliber of luxury, she will be available for charter through Edmiston, acting as her central charter agent.
