Feadship Launches Project 827: A Refined Vision of Modern Luxury Takes Shape

Feadship's latest 71.76-metre superyacht, Project 827, emerges in Amsterdam, showcasing elegant design and advanced diesel-electric propulsion.

Feadship, the renowned Dutch builder synonymous with bespoke luxury yachts, marked another significant milestone today with the technical launch of Project 827. Emerging from the shipyard's facility in Amsterdam, the 71.76-metre (235 feet 5 inches) superyacht is now poised for the final stages of outfitting and sea trials. This graceful vessel represents a forward-thinking addition to the Feadship fleet, embodying modern elegance and advanced engineering.

The launch of Project 827 underscores Feadship's continued output of high-calibre custom yachts, even as the industry navigates complex build schedules. Her debut signifies not just the successful construction of a complex vessel but also the collaboration between leading figures in yacht design and naval architecture.

Elegant Lines and Expansive Decks

Project 827's exterior design and styling are the work of the in-house talents at Studio De Voogt. Their design language for this project is immediately apparent in the yacht's elegant lines and perfectly balanced proportions, extending gracefully from her plumb bow to the wide swim platform aft. A low bulwark design further enhances the visual connection to the water, contributing to a distinctive sense of poise and calm.

The design places a strong emphasis on creating generous outdoor spaces. From the extended sundeck forward, offering prime vantage points and relaxation areas, to the expansive main deck aft with its impressive pool, the yacht's exterior decks are crafted for enjoyment and interaction. Teak-clad stadium steps leading down to the swim platform are not just functional but also a striking design element that reinforces Project 827’s unique profile.

Interiors Designed for Connection and Comfort

Complementing the sophisticated exterior is an interior design envisioned by FM Architettura. The design brief for Project 827 prioritised creating a social layout conducive to multi-generational enjoyment, ensuring comfort and connection for all guests aboard. Across five decks, the living spaces are designed to be both expansive and inviting.

A defining feature of the interior is the extensive use of floor-to-ceiling glass. This architectural choice floods the interior spaces with natural light, creating a bright and airy atmosphere and blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor living. The layout promotes flexibility, offering various areas for relaxation, entertainment, and private retreat.

Guest accommodation is thoughtfully located on the main deck, a design choice that allows for larger windows and increased ceiling heights in the staterooms, enhancing the sense of space and connection to the surrounding seascape. Four staterooms and two VIP suites provide flexible lodging options. The two VIP suites can be combined into a full-beam suite, offering exceptional versatility for families or groups.

Advanced Diesel-Electric Propulsion

Beneath her elegant exterior, Project 827 is powered by a next-generation diesel-electric propulsion system. This choice reflects Feadship's deep experience in hybrid and advanced propulsion solutions, building upon the legacy established by yachts like Savannah, launched in 2015 as one of the industry's pioneering hybrid superyachts.

The diesel-electric system combines IMO Tier III-compliant generators with electric thrusters. This configuration offers significant operational advantages. It allows for a cruising experience that is notably quieter compared to traditional mechanical setups, reducing noise and vibration for enhanced guest comfort. It also provides a cleaner footprint by optimising engine load and efficiency. Furthermore, the system is designed for greater responsiveness and is engineered with future sustainable energy solutions in mind, positioning Project 827 as a forward-looking vessel in terms of environmental considerations and technological integration. IMO Tier III refers to emissions regulations set by the International Maritime Organization, aiming to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions from marine diesel engines. Electric thrusters are propulsion units driven by electric motors, offering precise control and often integrated into advanced power management systems.

Dedicated Owner's Sanctuary

A notable feature, particularly for a yacht measuring just under 72 metres, is the inclusion of a dedicated owner's deck. Located above the main deck, this level offers a secluded sanctuary for the owner. The panoramic master stateroom is a highlight, featuring wrap-around glass that provides uninterrupted views of the surroundings, creating a truly immersive experience.

The owner's deck also includes direct access to a private breakfast area and a hot tub, offering exclusive spaces for relaxation and privacy. This dedicated level is made possible by the yacht's raised pilothouse design, a configuration that optimises internal volume and allows for a more flexible layout on the decks below.

Social Hub and Wellness

The main deck aft is designed as the yacht’s primary social centre. The main saloon, enclosed by full-height glass doors, opens seamlessly onto an expansive aft deck. This area features a generous 7.00-metre swimming pool, surrounded by ample sun loungers, creating an inviting space for daytime relaxation and evening gatherings. The aforementioned stadium steps provide easy and stylish access to the swim platform, which serves as the gateway to water activities.

Adding to the yacht's focus on guest enjoyment and well-being, a dedicated wellness space is located beneath the aft deck. Positioned just steps from the swim platform, this area is easily accessible to everyone on board, offering a convenient retreat for fitness or relaxation after enjoying time in the water.

Collaboration and Next Steps

The successful launch of Project 827 is the result of close collaboration between the owner, the shipyard, and various design partners. Azure Naval Architects were responsible for the naval architecture, ensuring the yacht's performance and stability. Studio De Voogt handled the exterior design, while FM Architettura shaped the interior spaces.

Richard Lambert, Senior Partner at Burgess, commented on the project, stating, “It has been a pleasure to have worked hand in hand with the owner and Feadship for Project 827; our close collaboration has resulted in a contemporary, elegant design with an impressive volume.” Burgess's involvement typically includes representing the owner throughout the build process, ensuring their vision is brought to life by the shipyard.

Project 827 features a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure, a standard combination for Feadship yachts of this size, offering a balance of strength and weight efficiency. Her principal dimensions include a length overall of 71.76 metres (235'5"), a beam overall of 12.40 metres (40'8"), and a draught (loaded) of 3.45 metres (11'4").

With her technical launch complete, Project 827 will now undergo final outfitting before commencing sea trials. These trials are crucial for testing all systems and ensuring the yacht performs to Feadship's exacting standards before delivery to her owner.

Project 827 stands as a testament to Feadship's ongoing commitment to craftsmanship, innovation, and creating highly personalised luxury yachts. Her combination of elegant design, thoughtful layout for multi-generational use, and advanced diesel-electric propulsion positions her as a noteworthy addition to the global superyacht fleet.
