Lürssen launches AZZAM, the Largest Superyacht in the world

Lürssen, the global leading shipyard for large luxury mega yacht building, is proud to announce the launch of 180m Superyacht AZZAM – the world's largest super yacht.

This sophisticated project was developed by a world-class team Eng. Mubarak Saad al Ahbabi personally assembled and directed. He was instructed to build a large luxury super yacht with an original yet classical design that would be able to reach high speeds in warm and shallow waters, all the while providing nothing but lavish and elegant accommodations for its Owner and guests.

Eng. Mubarak Saad al Ahbabi personally guided the development of the technical engineering by Lürssen, the design of the exterior by Nauta Yachts and the design of the interior by Christophe Leoni. The result is, undoubtedly, the most complex and challenging yacht project ever undertaken.

By becoming the largest superyacht in the world, AZZAM is entering unexplored territory in terms of performance, dimension and technology. This incredible vessel not only holds the record for the world's largest super yacht with a length of 180m and a top speed of over 30 knots, she also holds the building time record. Lürssen Managing Partner Peter Lürssen proudly commented: "When she will be delivered later this year, she will have been in build for only three years following one year of engineering. She truly represents another milestone in not only our history but yachting history as well."

The innovative design flawlessly combines strength of character with a sense of purpose while incorporating all the key elements of visionary modern design, achieving classic elegance.

Nauta CEO Mario Pedol declared: "When I first saw the scale model before the general presentation to the Principal, I was 100 % happy with the outcome and so was the Principal. Such recognition made me confident that we had achieved our goal".

To achieve this sophisticated mega yacht, the team under the guidance of Eng. Mubarak Saad al Ahbabi found the best solutions to meet the particular requirements in terms of design and technology, meeting – and exceeding – all expectations.

Some of the impressive features of Superyacht AZZAM include: a main salon with a length of 29 m and a beam of 18 m with an open plan and no pillars. She can easily reach speeds over 30 knots thanks to the combination of her 2 gas turbines and 2 diesel engines with a total of 94000 horse powers.

The renowned French Designer Christophe Leoni was in charge of the interior decoration who is extremely proud to have been able to achieve such a luxurious and sophisticated interior design in a turn of the century Empire style. "Though Yachting is not my main area of business, I thoroughly enjoyed the cooperation with Nauta and Lürssen and am confident that the final yacht is everything and more the owner expects," he stated.
